Exploding SNAP!

So, in case you're wondering what I'll be up to in August, now that the HPKCHC term is done, here it is, with the rules as set forth by NeedlesnSwiffers:

THE RULES
What is Exploding Snap?
Exploding Snap is a game to encourage House Cuppers to SNAP their works-in-progress (WIPs) into finished objects (FOs). While getting WIPs done is highly encouraged, new projects, frogging, repairs, and significant progress on WIPs that don’t get finished can also earn points. You will also earn points for not starting new projects, but more on that later.

Points, you say?
Oh yes, points indeed. Points are for individuals only and they are ONLY within Exploding Snap. There is no house affiliation and these points don’t carry into the House Cup in any way. We’d call them snaps instead of points but it just sounded too goofy! Exploding Snap is completely self-contained, so it has nothing to do with starting points for classes, detention, or any other House Cup activities. I’m going to start 35 projects and then frog them all for points! Points! POINTS!
Well, okay, you’re certainly welcome to do so. But if you’ll excuse the pun, that’s sort of missing the point (har har). The points are just a little motivation to do what you wanted to anyway. Personal satisfaction is the only goal! Also, we would have issue the spreadsheet its own zip code. Just, you know, something to consider.

Okay, fine. When can I get Snapping?
Exploding Snap starts when the Spring Term ends; that is to say at the beginning of August 1, 2010, Headmistress time (PST). Projects started in July or at any point prior are WIPs for Exploding Snap; projects started after will be considered new projects. Exploding Snap will end at 11:59:59pm PST on August 28.

Where does it happen?
This thread is for any and all discussion, chatter, encouragement, planning and plotting; a separate thread will be unlocked on August 1 for the purpose of turning in your finished work ONLY. Please help save our collective sanity by using the right thread at the right time. Projects in this thread will not be counted and talk in the other thread will be removed.

So I earn points for not doing something?
Yes. Or you could say you lose points for doing something; it’s all a matter of perspective. Everybody playing Exploding Snap will earn one point for each of the 28 days that they DON’T start a new project. You can really indulge and start 8 projects in 1 day and not earn 1 point, or start 8 projects on 8 different days and not earn 8 points. Because we cannot stalk all of you each moment, you’re going to have to tell us when you start a new project. You’ll do this by replying to post 5, 6, 7, or 8 in this thread based on the date. There will also be a link in the header to make it easy on you!

What is a project?
For Exploding Snap purposes only, here are the categories of projects accepted. Please remember that all regular House Cup assignments require proper finished objects within the specified time frame.
  • Finished WIPs: started before August 1, finished picture required
  • Finished new project: started on or after August 1, finished picture required
  • Frogging: started anytime, includes recycled sweaters; before (project) and after (yarn) pictures required
  • Traveling Scarf sections: only after picture required (since before is obvious)
  • Repairo!: show off those patched sock toes; after picture required, self-evaluated
  • Partial Projects: demonstrate significant progress on an unfinished project; before and after picture required
Each category will be graded differently, and the point values will be released August 1. Finish, fix, frog or at least try hard! There are no bonus points for projects.

Can I turn in jewelry/sewing/baking/gardening/dyeing/running/poetry?
This time we are only accepting the four Ravelry crafts: knitting, crochet, spinning, and weaving. Thanks for understanding.

How else can I earn points?
Signing up gets you 5 points, and off to a good start since you’ll need to sign up to play.

Posting your final Exploding Snap Plan is worth 5 points, but be careful what you put on your plan because you can’t edit it after the first week (August 7). Completing everything on your final Exploding Snap Plan (finish, frog, or substitute) is worth 10 points. Completion is self-evaluated.

How do I turn in a final Exploding Snap Plan?
NOTE: due to interest, sign-ups opened last week, but everyone can still play!Between August 1 ETA: now and August 7, you decide what you plan to do before the end of Exploding Snap. Write yourself a pretty little list of these things here in this thread and at the top of it type "My Final Exploding Snap Plan". I should be able to search that phrase and see all the plans. For example,
My Final Exploding Snap Plan
  1. finish a potholder
  2. make 4 hats
  3. frog that green sweater ugh
It doesn't have to make sense to anybody but you, and only you will evaluate whether or not you completed your plan. Your plan can be whatever you want it to be - something you feel you can easily accomplish or something to strive for. Editing your Final Plan post after August 7 will disqualify you from completion points.

Should you successfully complete your plan, earburn me as follows: needlesnswiffers, I have completed my plan!

And then the cheering will be deafening!

Naturally, I turned in my plan ASAP, and I'm encouraging anyone who can to play along!!
My Final Exploding Snap Plan, by a potentially over-ambitious CraftyGryphon
  1. Finish Hello Kitty Two-Sided Reverse-Negative Illusion Scarf.
  2. Swatch for Fall Term OWL proposal (at least three swatches required, possibly more once I recheck the pattern)
  3. Locate and frog Secret of the Stole #1 (attempt #2).
  4. Locate and knit at least six inches of the super-fine beaded mohair Peacock Scarf.
  5. Locate and knit at least six inches of the super-fine mohair Forget-Me-Not Shawl.
  6. Even though it doesn't count for Exploding Snap, finish at least one Xstitch project, just so I feel better about it all.
  7. FINISH THE DANGED ILLUSION DRAGON BLANKET SO THERE ARE NO MORE BLANKETS TO DO!!
  8. Er, except for this one: each week, add an overall average of four swatches to the Monster Blanket Project of **Doom**.
And, just to get in good with the Co-Captains/Assistant Captians, I made 'em icons (which it looks like they'll use!!!!):

Should be a fun month!!!
