Happy New Year!

My year-long not-store-related project has begun!

I started about 9pm on the 31st, and I'm possibly 1/8 done with the border. But promptly at midnight, the Garnet Dragon chart dropped.

Whee!

Carrie

My first real hero has died. Sure, Princess Leia when I was little, but also Carrie Fisher the writer of brilliant dialogue. Carrie Fisher the badass. Carrie Fisher, who spoke about her experiences with addiction and mental illness, and let so many people know that they were NOT alone.

Carrie Fisher, who will be so very missed.

Carrie Fisher, my hero.

Good Pokémon Day

Ran a Lucky Egg for a bunch of evolutions I didn't have yet (and a bunch I did), and got around 50k XP. These are my new ones:

Playing Tourist at Home

Today, husband & I went to Mt. Vernon, George Washington's property on the Potomac River.

I went for the Bicentennial (yes, 40 years ago). BOY has it changed!!

George Washington's View

First - paved parking lots. Then, past the Mount Vernon Inn and shops, there's a huge theater & education complex. All the outbuildings are restored & have living history actors.

Automatic milkshake machines!

All the fields have livestock (I forgot to get a photo of the sheep, darnit).

All the gardens have stuff. And there are a LOT of gardens. The botanical garden, the experimental garden (George was quite scientific about finding crops that would thrive on his land). The fruit and veg gardens. And those are the ones near the main house!

I found the pumpkins!

There's a trail through the forest with educational stops. Hear the bird calls George never heard! See the tracks of the local wildlife in his day! Guess the name of his dog!

Down by the river, The seawall was raised, so the marshy bits near the water are more living history and crops examples. There was a boatwright actually making a boat with period methods. The tobacco barn - they'd actually grown a saleable amount of tobacco (probably can't sell it; modern strains have way more nicotine). There were all the different types of fences, how they were made, and what they were used for.

A wild Husbeast appears!

There's even a pier and a boat tour now!!

Yes, there are 20+ Ingress missions. I did the 18 to get the banner - not well-created, IMO.

7.37 miles walked, which is still a lot for me. Really interesting stuff!!

Today, I saw stuff

Critters!

Memorials!

A restaraunt I thought had vanished forever!

Historic homes I haven't seen for decades!
(Gunston Hall, home of George Mason)

I also walked a LOT.
PS, UMW has 53 portals with another half-dozen or so reachable from the grounds.

Color Pop app

My mom, who is now totes comfy cruising the 'net, sent me a blurb on the ColorPop app. Which is just what it sounds like. Still having fun with it:

Oh, I also started another shawl. More on that tomorrow...

My neighborhood is taking the balrog problem seriously.

This week got away from me...

I did manage 3 medals in the Ravellenic Games this year... and a whole lot of misses (mostly WIPs).

Restarted a Looped infinity scarf. We had a store model in Lustra; I have this stuff.

Got cookies.

Got new kicks.
(PS, taking photos of one's own feet is tricky.)

Walked around historic Occoquan, VA.
There are vultures there, yo. And spy cameras?

Did I mention cookies?

Yep. Had a lobster dinner. ;)

More coherence this week, hopefully!

ASJ take... 7?

So, you may remember last year's Adult Surprise Jacket Knitalong. I picked some lovely yarn, and after a few false starts, got this far:

... and after a few MORE false starts, it is FROGGED. This yarn does not want to be this jacket!!

Cascade Tangier and Souk, however, really REALLY want to be an ASJ! I started last Tuesday:

... and as of tonight, I just put the neck stitches on holders. This is twice as far as I got on the other jacket!! I'm going to finish this one for #eventWIP in the #ravellenicgames2016!!!

Yay!!

Take 2!

It's time for Skacel's/Knit Purl Hunter's Scoreboard KAL! This year, there's a play-by-play version, which should be MUCH shorter.

I'm planning to do a play-by-play version as follows:

TD: 2 rows seed stitch
Extra point: knit row
Field goal: purl row
Safety: k2p2row

Also? My "this year" scarf will actually be LAST season.

You know - the one where my Broncos won Super Bowl 50 ;)

Catching up!

Okay, here are a few of the things that happened in July:

Crocheted starfish for our Coral Reef Beach window display

A Danger Crafts tweeter

A tiny Cowichan-style sweater from a class with Beth Brown Reisel

Another Virus Shawl (more on that later in the week)

Tex-Mex food & Pokémon GO

And the discovery of Star Wars jewelry at Kay's. (No, I don't have any. Yet.)

I started more projects, too, of course.

More on that later, as well.

A Spot of Tea

I've had this little Dragon Dreams "Spot of Tea" chart for ages, and HPKHCH Quidditch warm-ups this term gave me a reason to get it finished! Hooray!

May the Fourth

Yes, it's the fifth, but there were several May the Fourth pics going around yesterday that I want to be able to find next year:

You're welcome.

Pls Send Yarn

It's late, I have a door full of magnetic letters, and I am easily amused. #plssendyarn #knittersoftheworld #crochetersoftheworld #yarnaddict #magnets

All the repairs...

Monday was the day for electrical inspection, HVAC check, and the start of the massive plumbing repairs.

As my job was pretty much open the door, then stay out of the way, I had time to play with the pre-stretched canvas pack I got at Michaels.

The canvas isn't taut, and the one I picked needs ironing (turns out my tiny quilting iron is useful for more than O thought). A quick internet search gave me the perfect free pattern.

So, here it is, all finished:

Ingress stitching

This needs to be turned into some sort of needlepoint or waste canvas on a jacket or something!! #ingress
