More weaving....

I've finished all the woven squares for my scarf or cowl. Every square had at least 4 ends to weave in. I managed to weave in all the things today.

I have a skein of Shalimar Breathless in "Land! Katie Scarlett". I'll be edging all the squares with that (hello, G hook!) then  stitching the squares together.

I have 22 squares, all told. I'm not sure if it's going to be an 11x2-square long scarf or a 7x3-square long cowl and a coaster.

I'm leaning towards the cowl, we'll see!

Pumpkin Season!

It's the second half of September, and that means crochet pumpkins for the store window!

These are the two I did yesterday:

The pattern is the crochet version of the Spice Pumpkins, free on Ravelry.

Catching up!

Okay, here are a few of the things that happened in July:

Crocheted starfish for our Coral Reef Beach window display

A Danger Crafts tweeter

A tiny Cowichan-style sweater from a class with Beth Brown Reisel

Another Virus Shawl (more on that later in the week)

Tex-Mex food & Pokémon GO

And the discovery of Star Wars jewelry at Kay's. (No, I don't have any. Yet.)

I started more projects, too, of course.

More on that later, as well.

New Term has Begun

A new term started today for the Harry Potter Knit & Crochet House Cup. I've already managed to turn in a class:

Magical Literature - make something with a heart or hearts:

Started another class:

It's the Adela Knitalong run by Kelbourne Woolens, in some TurtleMade Sparkle Soxk, color 341. It's for DADA (use sparkly yarn).

I turned in my OWL proposal. It's Arithmancy, and I'm FINALLY going to make Wolly Thoughts "A New Angle". I even found all the yarn!

Plus, I got my first badge for turning in my OWL proposal, then turning in a class before my OWL was approved:

So, off to a good start! Quidditch warm ups are this week, BROOMS next week... oh boy...!

Hook on a Ring

So I managed to break my K-hook off my multi-hook yesterday. Not sure how I managed it, but there you go.

Turns out, it fits beautifully on my keychain! So... win?

Circularity

The Circular Vest class was today. We had the choice of basic double crochet on out, or to play with stuff.

I opted for "play with stuff", and am attempting a Viral Vest (some of the same motifs as the Virus Shawl). So far, so good!

Hexagon Jacket

Wore my Hexagon Jacket again today. It's still a little chilly, but not quite heavy-sweater level cold.

It's Berroco Remix, and has some now-discontinued colors. Not normally colors I'd put together, but it works!

I added longer sleeves (and cuffs), a short collar, and all the seams are detailed with crossed stitches. I wear it much more often than I thought I would!

Finished objects!

Finished my Virus Shawl during the first quarter of the SuperBowl. 2 skeins Red Heart Boutique and a J hook.

Finished my Scoodie (Scoodie Workshop was also on Sunday) yesterday. Berocco Marmot, 4 balls (although half the black one is still with us) and a K hook; H for the ears.

Owl Obsessed

So, there's this adorable crocheted owl:

... and I totally want one. Mine, however, will have more, um, intense coloration.

Plus fluorescent green and yellow. I took the pic above so that you wouldn't go pixel-blind. This stuff is lethal in sunlight!

Sheep Toys!

Okay, so June 5-14 was the Metro Yarn Crawl. That's pretty much been my life through this past Sunday, no computer time to speak of at all!

Did finish a few cute little things, though, for the 1st Saturday Happening at the store: First, a Sheep Etu [Rav Link] crocheted sheep:

And this adorable little guy, via Flutterby Patch. His "sweater" comes off, and can be replaced with others as the fancy strikes!!

Granny Square Crochet Hearts

Did you know you can make Granny Square crochet hearts? I didn't either:

However, it's pretty easy. Make a granny square....

... then add some bumps...

... and ta-dah! Heart!!

Add a picot edge, and they're really pretty!

(Yes, I realize I should have put these up a month ago, but it's up now!)

Crocheted Snowflakes

I took a class offered at the shop on Crocheted Snowflakes. I made two.

Any day now, I'm going to figure out how to starch them....

The Neverending Tablecloth

OWL Progress - heading into the homestretch now, as the finished product has less than a month to... well, become a finished product. Here's where I was at my last turn-in (end of February). From where I stopped before (several years ago!!), I did an additional 40 rows:

The little silver arrow in the photo shows where I started - and the forty new rows to the right. Just 32 rows left to finish this. I am REALLY looking forward to having it finished up!!

Just 32 rows... sigh... I'd better get cracking!

SHINY!

So, there was a fun twist for the first Quidditch project this term - pick a "real" quidditch team, and make something that embodies the spirit of that team. I picked the Magpies... the only "value" of the team was "OOOOOO, SHINY!"

SO SHINY!!

I think I should get bonus points for managing shiny *and* House colors (we were told that just doing the team's colors wouldn't count).

Serendipity and Jupiter

So, HPKCHC classes started January 1, and I had TOTAL SERENDIPITY. You see, on Christmas Day, as I rode to my in-laws, I crocheted a moebius scarf-like thing. My mother decided that it matched her jacket, having shades of blue and pink in it:

Exhibit A

so I needed to crochet another one for myself. At an after-Christmas sale (at Uniquities, I think), I got a lovely ball of Encore that matched the tones in my jacket (rendering it less likely to be absconded with).

So, January 1, as I rode the train into DC (for fun, thankfully, I didn't have to work on the first, and a big thank you to all the service, medical and emergency personnel who did!), I started making the same project for myself. Then, I logged into Ravelry to check what classes would be offered this term. I notice that my yarn happens to contain the EXACT SHADES of the photo of Jupiter that was posted with the Astronomy assignment! And it's super-fast to make - which is one of the options of that assignment!

So, crochet happened, and before too long, *POOF* I had a scarf that matched my jacket:

Yay!

And Crochet! I do that too!

The other thing I started this month was a small cotton bathmat. The fancy bathmats with the rubber backing just don't survive in my house (even the cute duck-shaped one), and I did manage to do a major cotton yarn haul at the Dollar Store last year. So, I found a really pretty crochet pattern: Simple Tunisian Bath Mat by Sarah Beaton. (It's possible I found the pattern first, and thought - "that's bloody brilliant!") I then got a fancy new hook:

(click on hook to get one of your own)

... and then I discovered I have COMPLETELY forgotten how to do Tunisian crochet. And I've got an entire SWEATER made out of Tunisian crochet.

Very sad.

Now I didn't have big-screen (over the size of an iPhone) computer access, but I had a new hook and yarn... so I decided to wing it. I still remember afghan stitch, so I got two orphan balls that kinda went together, and cast on the number of stitches I would have if I was doing the Tunisian crochet bath mat (which is still lovely and I'm totally doing one eventually), and I have gotten this far:

Totally the wrong background to shoot against.
The camera can barely handle the carpet, but the carpet and the yarn...?

If I can finish this one, I may well be on to something...

Back, with a crocheted beaded necklace!

Time to get back to posting. I have been working on some things, but have only managed to turn in one class this month, and that was today! Here's my turn-in post:
Name: CraftyGryphon
House: Slytherin, 7th Year
Option: 1 - Use the colors which remind us of the lake at Hogwarts
Project Page: Chain-Chain-Bead
Yardage: 6

Hello, Professors!

I crocheted, beaded then braided strands of silk in blue, green, and a soft sand, all colors found at our lake. The result can be worn as a necklace, a hairband, or a wrapped around twice to be a bangle bracelet.

I think it looks a bit like seaweed in the water, with a little sparkle for fun.

I'll be making more of these, in other colors, I think!!

OWL Progress

So, over the weekend, I was able to get everything up through Row Six finished. (I have to do through Row 13 and the corners to be at 50%.) Here's how they looked about halfway through Row Five:

I then decided that no, I really really wanted to do the sun-through-window color & intensity gradation starting with palest in the upper left to darkest around the bottom and right borders. So, I needed to put in for approval to add more colors to my project (but otherwise not change the actual design or product.

Basically, I'm adding bright-bright yellow, orange and green, pastel peach and pink, and dark red and purple.

Here's one block up with Row Twelve started (thirteen will be dusky pink outside it). I think at least the pastel blocks are going to look phenomenal; I'm hoping the rest do, as well!!

Fingers crossed!!
