Dearest lovely Serpentine Valentine Sparkly Socks: I adore you, truly I do. Know that really, someday you will be more than just a Right Cuff. It's almost time to start your green, and as you know, shortly thereafter, there will be sparkly silver snakes all over you. It's just that... well.
I don't quite know how to break this to you, so I'll put it bluntly: There's someone else.
I sort of started this...
But need to frog and reknit
Specifically, there's a knitted trilobite, a Who? hat, and eight to twelve glass cozies that have a much tighter deadline - especially the glass cozies, which need to be in the mail tomorrow. You see, there's mailing deadlines, and then wrapping deadlines - I'm sure you understand. It doesn't mean that I love you any less, of course, and please, please understand that this is just one of those temporary things - I won't even be keeping any of those other projects, and you, I'll keep forever.

I just can't work on you right now. I know, I know, it's cruel - I keep picking you up, and then putting you back down. And, in fairness, I haven't even *started* any of those other projects - even the eight to twelve glass cozies that have to be in the mail tomorrow. I'm not treating you fairly, and it's through no fault of your own. You are an awesome sock... er, cuff... er... well, you understand.

It's me.
First up, for the stitchers out there: my friend M sent me a link to the HowAboutOrange blog (SO following this one now!), which, in turn, had a link to adorable Printable Cards for Embroidery Thread from Wild Olive. Check 'em out!!
Next up, a finished object: my little snowflake lace whatever-it-is. It was going to be a mobius-thing, but I found some cute little star buttons and was getting close to running out of yarn, so viola - it has buttons!
It's about 16" long, unblocked (and I'm not planning on blocking it), and very warm and fuzzy.
Here's my very best future-Hogwarts-professor look. The Slytherin glasses really help with the effect, no? (Well, ok, maybe not. I'm not as good at taking pictures of myself w/o a mirror as my cousin is.)
There's just enough yarn left to put in a shiny paper clip and keep in my desk as emergency stash. Because, for some reason, my desk felt empty without yarn in it.
But hey, one finish for December, either way!!
Well, we've had five straight days with the nights well below freezing and quite a few of the days. This means, among other things, that certain Signs That It's Really Winter are starting to appear.
For one, the canal is frozen over, which means that the local college kids have started to throw things at it from the brigdges above. (This is incredibly annoying; either they're throwing trash, which shouldn't go in the water, or they're prying up bricks from the bridges/walkways to throw in - which means there are giant ankle-breaking gaps in said bridges walkways. Idiots, the lot of them.)
More literal signs have started - this is the annual "Ice Falling From Roof" notice that appears nearby - and is usually pummeled by falling ice.
We still haven't gotten snow here, though. Sunday, however, looks good for it!
Thanks to curiouskate (a fellow House Cupper), I was introduced to the concept of an Advent Calendar Scarf on Monday. Specifically, This One; photos of the model from the designer here. Tuesday morning, I tried to start winding the yarn, but couldn't find my ball-winder, so tried to go by hand... 450 yards? That's a lot - so I didn't finish until I got home in the evening. Now, since I have roughly 50yds less yarn than called for, I'll be changing the "spacer rows" between the daily patterns - basically 4 rows instead of 8, which, over 23 spacers, should give me enough yarn to finish.
The yarn is Dragonfly Fibers Watermelon Head colorway (the link goes to K's lovely photo of same). I found it over the summer, intending to make some watermelon-colored SOMETHING with it, but realized it was perfect for this project. It's a bit bright (especially the green) for a *normal* person to look at it and go "oh, Christmas!". Given, however, that I usually have some electric neon-green on my person somewhere (especially when wearing a scarf/coat/backpack), I think it will just scream "Christmas" when I'm done with it.
And then, during the day, I thought about it and thought about it. Curiouskate's scarf was fuzzy and soft looking. The Dragonfly Fibers Djinn - while still soft and lovely - is not fuzzy.
I want my scarf to be fuzzy... and that means "mohair content". (It's possible I'm still being charmed by the mohair/viscose ball of Mosco from which I'm making my smoke ring - about halfway done, btw!)
Thus, I needed to hit Fibre Space. And there, I found this:
It's four skeins (um, one is a ball and a bit knit up, thus not pictured) of Neighborhood Fiber Co. "Loft" in the Rock Creek Park coloway. It is soft. It is fuzzy. It is a lovely shade of green - which you may notice becoming a trend over here. It's sitting on a lovely garnet-red Della Q Priscilla bag that, um... well, that just sort of happened. I was really just in it for the yarn. Oh - and needles. I, much to my shock, did not previously own a 24" size 3 (US) circular needle! Anyway, solved all that, and spent through March's yarn budget, but it was worth it.
It's Day Eight of the scarf for everyone. I know CuriousKate is caught up, she showed me a lovely photo yesterday. I'd been planning to stay up and at least finish through Day 2 last night, but I totally fell asleep earlier than expected (something about being good and exercising for over an hour last night - ow!). So, a bit more today. And I'll catch up completely over the weekend - I'll be sitting in a moving vehicle while Not Driving quite a while both Saturday and Sunday, with nothing to do but knit!
