Hexagon Jacket

Wore my Hexagon Jacket again today. It's still a little chilly, but not quite heavy-sweater level cold.

It's Berroco Remix, and has some now-discontinued colors. Not normally colors I'd put together, but it works!

I added longer sleeves (and cuffs), a short collar, and all the seams are detailed with crossed stitches. I wear it much more often than I thought I would!

Heheeheeee

So, yesterday, this idea was hatched:

Feel free to play along, you don't have to be local!

Homespun Sweater

Finished my Lion Brand Homespun sweater. My design, top down seamless. It is soft and snuggly. I fell in love   with the color. Yes, it's acrylic. Don't care, it's soft and snuggly!

SilverSpun & Feel Good Yarns

Yesterday was the SilverSpun Workshop & Trunk Show at the store.

I did workshop space set-up (remembered we had two tables!):

Dorie (the organizer) and Laurie (the owner) from Feel Good Yarns did all the product set-up and ran the workshop.

At the workshop, we got little bags with 2 DPNs and two gloves, which we learned to transform into touch-screen gloves!

(promo pic from Feel Good Yarns as I left my gloves in my car, so no photo...)

The trunk show went well, woohoo! I might, just possibly, have bought some yarn...

(It's Thera-gloves for my mum, don't tell her!)

That's Section One, all done.

Urban Girl Yarns and a Failure To Resist Temptation

So one of the cool things about working at a yarn store is getting to help pick out new yarns.

One of the dangerous things is finding yarns that want to follow you home. Today's example: Urban Girl Yarns

Merino/nylon, 480 yards. Squishy and gorgeous, with fun names like "Lizard", "Morning Latte" (From the Bangkok collection) and "Tramp" (Scandal collection).

My Harper Shawl will be composed of Morning Latte (main color) and Brandy Wine (contrast).

So yeah, that happened. Again.

Sweater Kickoff

We had the Year of Sweaters Kickoff Party at the store today. Pamela made a cute (and tasty) cake:

And someone put a Yoshi in the tree outside:

We didn't get as many people as we expected, though. So everyone that did come pretty much had their pick of the yarn we got in for it!

Dreaming in color

I absolutely did not need to buy a skein of Dream in Color. But this one really appealed to me:

Can't imagine why...

(Yes, my Done a Roving shawl is danged close to the IDENTICAL colorway!)

So, what's it like to work at a yarn store?

Baker Street Scarf

This is a free pattern on Knitty.com. It's a simple two-row repeat. I used two skeins of HiKoo Simplinatural.

I wound off the yarn for the fringe first, then knit until I was out of red, switched to gold and knit the gold.

The fringe is hooked on individually, then knotted in clumps of two or three.

I have very little yarn left:

It curls something fierce right now, but I'm hoping blocking will take care of that. If it was mine, I'd call it done, but it's a shop model. So, blocking will happen.

An attack of Startitis

And lo, it was decided that from the leftover balls of Yarn Bar yarns would be created Store Models, and, yea verily, I did throw myself upon the ball of Shalimar Breathless in the Mandarin colorway and vow to crochet something therewith.

Easy Ombré Slouch Hat

The Easy Ombré Slouch Hat is done. It was, in fact, quite easy. The yarn is Rowan Alpaca Merino DK, which was a delight to knit. I may have secured a ball or four for some Fair Owls mitts.

It's raining, it's pouring.

I'm currently sitting in my car in my driveway knitting...

(Vehicle is parked. Do not freak out.)

... and catching up on The Knitting Samurai's video podcast. Why?

    (Hi Steph!)

It's pouring and I don't want to leave the car. (Also, I'm just a few rows from the end of this hat!)

(Gah. Did not realize rain would happen, would've taken the flag in.)

So, how's Monday treating you?
